Advanced esthetics, smile design expertise help you to realize your smile’s “full potential”

We all recognize a great smile when we see one. It’s almost instinctual. Smile “artists” and “designers” like Dr. Sanjay Dhir know what makes these smiles stand out so favorably from others. After all, Dr. Dhir has extensive technical training and hands-on experience in dental esthetics and smile design, courtesy of obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Esthetic Dentistry from UCLA. A lifelong learner, he is committed to ongoing training in the latest, advanced techniques and treatments. You, as a patient at our San Diego, California practice benefit from knowing that the latest, greatest, and safest materials and approaches have been applied to reveal or restore your most attractive and confident smile.

Elements of an aesthetically pleasing smile

Attractive smiles are, first and foremost, built on a foundation of oral health. Teeth that have beauty are supported by healthy gum tissue. The enamel that protects the teeth remains strong and unblemished. Since cosmetic treatments are elective procedures, Dr. Dhir resolves underlying conditions that threaten the structure and health of your mouth. On otherwise healthy mouths, cosmetic imperfections can be addressed with a range of treatments to restore or achieve the following, coveted features:

  • Straight teeth
  • Even spaces between teeth
  • White teeth that are free of stains
  • Smooth surfaces without chips
  • Regular and balanced contours
  • Gums that attractively “frame” the teeth
  • Regularly-sized teeth (not too short or too long in appearance)

One of the most versatile ways to address almost all the above conditions is indirect or porcelain veneers or direct veneers (dental bonding). These procedures involve

preparing materials such as dental ceramics and composite resin. The prepared material is then applied and fixed securely to the front surfaces of the teeth. In effect, cosmetic imperfections are covered up or disguised. Direct veneers are prepared and shaped on the teeth, with Dr. Dhir using his skill and artistry to sculpt or mold such a new tooth structure. Indirect veneers are shaped and fabricated outside of the mouth. Once the veneer is ready, it is then applied and cemented to the front of the tooth. Both treatments can be used to close gaps, add height to worn teeth, reshape irregularly-contoured teeth, and cover-up chips or minor cracks.

Professional teeth whitening also presents a fast way to dramatically transform the color of your teeth, which immediately injects youthful vibrancy into your smile and face. Teeth whitening at our practice works and is also safe because it is tailored to your needs and to address specific concerns that you may have. For instance, the concentration of the potent whitening gel can be altered to account for tooth sensitivity.

There is no single type of treatment that is used to boost the aesthetics of your smile. And the treatment or plan that is developed revolves around your unique features and needs.
